Once upon a time, Harley-Davidson was just about the last brand someone would go to for performance. Sure, there are a few bright spots where the V-Twin’s torque paid dividends on hill-climber and flat-tracker bikes. However, until the late 1990s, the marque wasn’t known for outright performance, which led detractors to call them Hardly-Ablesons, and it wasn’t entirely unfair to be honest.
Then, once the Twin Cam mills were established and began growing in displacement, all this started to change. The factory started paying more attention to performance, and this would continue in earnest with the current Milwaukee-Eight engine that serves as the current Big Twin platform. For this list, the bikes are ordered by horsepower, but all of them back up those numbers with real-world performance credentials rather than simply relying on large-displacement engines.

FXDR 114
Output: ~79 Horsepower/119 Pound-Feet Of Torque
The FXDR is one of H-D’s earlier efforts at sportifying its cruiser lineup. The frame itself is based on the Softail, but gone is the swingcage in favor of a beefy swingarm built to cope with the engine’s immense torque output. Power comes from a tier-2 Milwaukee-Eight 114 V-twin that produces 119 pound-feet of torque in a 668-pound package.
Because Harley-Davidson never published an official horsepower figure, independent dyno testing puts the FXDR 114 at roughly 79 horsepower at the rear wheel, making it every bit as spicy as the newer models. This bike was quite powerful when it was new, so it helped pave the way for what we have today. Raked-out forks lend it a chopper look, and it was built as a solo drag bike/stoplight burner. It was one of the quickest and most aggressive Softails Harley-Davidson had been built up to that time.

Fat Bob 114
Output: 95 Horsepower/118 Pound-Feet Of Torque
The Fat Bob 114 is another hot-looking sled with fat tires, bobbed fenders, and a powerful engine. A Milwaukee-Eight 114 powers it with 95 horses and 118 pound-feet of torque ready to go. Sporty, inverted forks lead the way with a barely-there front tin ahead of its second-generation Softail frame that delivers better comfort and handling than the original Softail frames, and it does it with fewer parts and less weight. Full electronic rider aids come stock.

Breakout 117
Output: 103 Horsepower/126 Pound-Feet Of Torque
The Breakout is H-D’s modern performance chopper with a front end that’s kicked all the way out to 34 degrees, and a skinny front hoop like the old-school builds. Opposite the narrow, large-diameter front wheel is a wide rear tire that’s built to have a nice fat contact patch; just the thing for a performance bike. The rider enhancements come in corner-sensitive varieties to help you keep things under control, even in adverse conditions. Power comes from a Milwaukee-Eight 117 Custom with 103 horsepower and 126 pounds of torque to launch this lean and muscular machine out of the hole and downrange.

Fat Boy 117
Output: 103 Horsepower/126 Pound-Feet Of Torque
The Fat Boy has been part of pop culture ever since Arnold Schwarzenegger rode one in Terminator 2, but it hasn’t always been considered a performance model until now. H-D shoehorned the powerful Milwaukee-Eight 117 Custom engine into the second-gen Softail frame to make this model a bit of a sleeper. It has all the electronics the factory has to offer in the stock equipment package, and has a rather nostalgic look due to the fat, skirted front forks. Harley even introduced a Gray Ghost edition for 2026 that doubles down on the model’s iconic chrome-heavy aesthetic.

Road Glide Limited
Output: 106 Horsepower/131 Pound-Feet Of Torque
H-D keeps to its long-established touring layout for the Road Glide Limited with the Sharknose fairing, tall glass, lower fairings, and Tour Pak that doubles as a dandy backrest for your passenger. This bike packs the advanced M-8 117 and comes complete with variable valve timing that deepens the torque well without sacrificing top-end speed. It cranks out 106 ponies and 131 pounds o’ grunt, which isn’t bad for what would pass as a grandpa’s bike at a glance.
Naturally, the infotainment and ride-control electronics package is top-shelf to support your riding adventures. At nearly 900 pounds ready to ride, the Road Glide Limited has no business feeling this strong, yet the Milwaukee-Eight VVT 117 turns Harley’s flagship luxury tourer into a legitimate sleeper.

Low Rider ST
Output: 114 Horsepower/128 Pound-Feet Of Torque
The Low Rider ST comes built on the new Softail frame, but is essentially the same design as one of the old FXRT “Sport Glide” light-touring bikes from the mid 80s to the mid 90s, which were also produced as FXRP police models and used as the “pursuit model” by agencies all over the U.S. A bullet fairing and low windscreen improve aerodynamic efficiency while helping protect the rider, and stock panniers provide some utility as an errand runner and commuter bike.
It rocks a High Output Milwaukee-Eight 117 engine delivering ample horsepower and torque that will absolutely catapult you out of the hole and down the road. This mill has something to give at almost every point of the rev range, and while top speed may not be as high as some race bikes, it’s capable of going way faster than you ever should on public roads.

Low Rider S
Output: 114 Horsepower/128 Pound-Feet Of Torque
The Low Rider moniker has been used for decades. It is one of the few models that crossed over from the FXR and Dyna frames onto Harley’s second-generation Softail frame, which now underpins all of its cruiser models. It has a little café-like bullet housing around the headlight, but no stock bags or fairing to push around, so it’s a rather clean-looking model. The Low Rider S packs the same engine as its big brother, the Low Rider ST, so its lighter heft translates to even better acceleration. It isn’t quite as versatile as the ST, but delivers an even purer performance-cruiser experience.

Sportster S
Output: 121 Horsepower/93 Pound-Feet Of Torque
The Sportster family has seen the Shovelhead-based Ironheads and Evolution-powered Sporties, and while they could sort of live up to their name with a little bit of modification, they were never on par with the Japanese and European marques as far as raw performance. Enter: the Sportster S.
Gone is the reliable but dated Evolution engine that carried the line for over 30 years. In its place is a new Revolution Max 1250T engine that breaks all the old rules. It’s liquid-cooled, it has a short-stroke layout, and it prioritizes horsepower over torque with 121 ponies versus 93 pound-feet of torque. This new mill pairs with a sportier chassis that can handle like no Sporty before. This is among the fastest and quickest stock Harleys, ever. Full corner-enhanced ride-safety electronics sweeten the deal.

CVO Road Glide ST
Output: 127 Horsepower/145 Pound-Feet Of Torque
The CVO Road Glide ST is built for the absolute fiery-eyed pegdraggers out there; you maniacs know who you are. This is H-D’s apex predator in the 2026 lineup and is every inch the quintessential performance-bagger. The fixed, frame-mount Sharknose fairing tends to be preferred over the new pared-down Batwing by faster riders, in part due to the fairing not affecting the steering like the fork-mount Batwing can do in choppy conditions. A monstrous, 121 cubic-inch engine does its work without complaint and delivers track-worthy numbers, while carbon-fiber bodywork keeps things as light and responsive as possible.

1
Pan America 1250 Special
Output: 150 Horsepower/94 Pound-Feet Of Torque
H-D really stepped outside its realm of experience when it built the Pan America. This is The MoCo’s first real production adventure bike, and if I’m honest, it doesn’t really look like a Harley at all. The Special does, however, pack some serious power with a whopping 150 ponies and 94 pounds of torque on tap from its Revolution Max 1250 engine, which enjoys more aggressive tuning than the 1250T found in the Sportster S. The suspension travel measures over seven inches at both ends for excellent rough-terrain handling. Full electronic support comes standard.
