GM reported that they sold circa 11,000 XT4 models in 2025, down from approximately 22,400 XT4 models sold in 2024. With full-sized contenders like the Cadillac Escalade and Cadillac Escalade IQ EV, we can see on the face of things why the XT4 plays second fiddle, but when you delve into it, it really shouldn’t.

The Cadillac XT4 is small enough to use every day with ease, it is very well-equipped, the engine is perky enough for light duty, and today, used prices are very low compared to the huge price tags of the likes of the Escalade and larger XT5 and XT6 models.

It is also one of the most affordable Cadillac luxury SUV models you can buy from the last two model years. With a starting used price of just over $28,000, it is level with the 2024 XT5, but cheaper than a 2024 or 2025 XT6, a 2024 Escalade, which has a starting used price of $63,600, and an all-electric 2024 Cadillac Lyriq, which has a starting used price of $30,700.

Small Yet Sophisticated, The XT4 Stands Out Among Cadillac SUV Models

While it is the smallest Cadillac SUV, the dimensions don’t mean that you are going to be swamped by some of the land trains we have on the road today. The 2024 XT4 measures in at 181.1 inches in length and 76.7 inches in width, and rides on a 109.4-inch wheelbase. These kinds of dimensions mean that it is ideal for just jumping in and driving, not having to plan a route that avoids smaller roads.

It may be minute, but you also still get the luxury Caddy exterior look that adorns many of the more expensive SUVs from the lineup and solidifies it as a Cadillac SUV. Today, according to Kelley Blue Book, the average used price range of the 2025 Cadillac XT4 comes in between $39,700 and $40,400. Plus, the 2024 XT4 has three trims to choose from, while the 2025 XT4 only has the Premium and Sport trims to choose from.

Outside, the 2024 facelift brings a real glow-up compared to the 2023 model with a completely reworked front fascia, with vertical signature lighting and new grille options for different trim levels. This 9K-resolution screen integrates the instrument cluster and infotainment screen in one sweeping panel, replacing the old 8-inch unit and separate gauges in the 2023 model. If you take a look inside the Cadillac Lyriq, you can see the carry-over from the flashy EV SUV design into the penultimate MY of the XT4. You just get it for a lot less money here.

Alongside the display, the 2024 XT4 is fitted with a redesigned center console with a rotary controller, updated graphics, and a cleaner interface layout. Premium Luxury and Sport trims get more in the way of tech, with features like a 13-speaker AKG Studio audio rig and better navigation, but all models get the 33-inch screen and come as a vast improvement over what is found in the 2023 lineup.

According to owner reviews on Kelley Blue Book, the 2024 Cadillac XT4 is rated 4.4 out of 5 overall, with ratings of 4.3 for value, 4.5 for performance, quality, and comfort, and 4.9 out of 5 for styling. Likewise, the overall rating for the 2024 XT4 on J.D. Power is 77 out of 100, so you get a good idea that it is made for everyday luxury use.

There is just one engine option for all trims of the penultimate model year of the Cadillac XT4: a 2.0-liter turbo-four. It may not be an exceptionally powerful mill, but it is capable of offering reasonable fuel consumption stats considering the maximum curb weight of 3,891 pounds.

The 2024 XT4 is also available with front-wheel drive or with all-wheel drive. While the all-wheel drive system does shore up traction in the wet and gives the XT4 a little bite, fuel consumption takes a slight knock.

According to FuelEconomy.gov, the front-wheel drive XT4 can achieve 26 combined mpg (24 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway), while the AWD XT4 can achieve 25 combined mpg (23 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway). This is estimated to cost you between $2,250 and $2,300 a year for gas, with the AWD model costing slightly more.

The transmission boasts closely-spaced gear ratios, which means it rarely has to hunt for the right gear. Shifts are also electronically controlled and adapt in real time to suit how and where you are driving, so when you accelerate gently from a standstill, the transmission changes smoothly, while fiercer throttle inputs prompt sharper upshifts without jolts.

The XT4 also features lock-up torque converter tech, which reduces slippage when you are cruising. This adaptive logic works alongside both the front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive systems, and adjusts power delivery between the wheels and gears, meaning that you get a natural feel whether you’re merging onto a highway, braking into a turn, or getting the most out of AWD on rockier pavement.

This package includes a heavy-duty cooling system, a 2-inch hitch receiver, and a wiring harness. While it may not be one of the best SUVs for towing, for a small luxury SUV, it brings a versatile edge. The 3,500-pound tow rating also makes it very competitive compared to models like the RAV4 Adventure, Subaru Outback, Ford Escape, and Mazda CX-50 that can all tow the same amount behind them.

XT4 Comfort And Refinement Over Flashy Performance

The 2024 Cadillac XT4 isn’t about sporty thrills, off-roading guts, or performance SUV speeds; 0–60 mph times have been clocked at 7 to 7.4 seconds, and the AWD system is better for on-road use. The XT4 is designed to make daily driving smooth and comfortable.

Alongside the LSY turbo-four and nine-speed auto, a big part of that comes from the suspension setup. You get MacPherson front struts and a multi-link rear rig that gives you decent articulation over uneven asphalt. The 2024 Cadillac XT4 has also been rated as the number one luxury compact SUV with the most legroom by iSeeCars. Despite its small stature, you get respectable rear legroom of 39.5 inches and 44.1 inches of front legroom, making it an exceptionally roomy little SUV.

The now-dropped Cadillac XT4 is proof that you don’t need to buy a gargantuan SUV to benefit from lots of passenger room, enough cargo space for normal driving and weekends away, and plenty of comfort.
