Front-wheel drive is standard fare for non-turbo models, and i-ACTIV AWD is an optional extra. 0–60 mph times for FWD NA models have been clocked at seven seconds, while AWD models can spring to 60 in 7.5 seconds. FuelEconomy.gov says that the most fuel-efficient model is the FWD non-turbo model, which can achieve 30 combined mpg (27 mpg city/36 mpg highway), and will cost you $2,250 a year for gas. The Mazda 3 Sedan’s biggest trick is making you wonder where Mazda cut corners in making it. At first glance, it feels like something that sits above the Civic, Corolla, and K4 in class, while still costing a similar amount. Instead of chasing the gimmicky stuff and loading the dashboard with flashy lighting effects, Mazda has done the Mazda thing and focused on putting in things that we will use every day.

Upscale Design Helps It Punch Above Its Class

Even the base 2.5 S avoids the cheap look that still plagues some other cheap compact sedans. The dash design is clear with soft-touch parts in key contact areas, while the level of fit-and-finish looks a lot better than the price suggests. You get an 8.8-inch center display in lower trims, and a larger 10.25-inch infotainment display in higher trims. You also still get a rotary dial to handle some of the infotainment controls, so it is not all just hunting through menus to turn the music up.

The Preferred trim adds an eight-way power driver’s seat with memory settings, while the Carbon Edition gets a distinctive red leather interior that makes it all feel a lot more classy than it should. The most expensive and most powerful Turbo Premium Plus model gets the most goodies, though, with leather-trimmed seating, a heated steering wheel, a HUD, and a 12-speaker Bose premium audio rig all included. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included in all trims; you can opt for Alexa Built-In; push-button start and remote keyless entry are equipped, and Mazda’s “Ideal Driving Position Philosophy” is adopted and makes for a very comfortable ride.

The new Mazda 3 Sedan is rated 77 out of 100 for driving experience on J.D. Power and 4.1 out of 5 for performance by owners on Kelley Blue Book. While these aren’t the most exciting ratings for performance, bear in mind this is a budget-priced compact sedan and not a sports car. That means you get a sedan that feels planted in the corners and more composed than it should when you want to change direction quickly, while still maintaining comfort and fluidity in everyday driving.

Then you have the electric power steering system, which carries more weight and feedback in your hand than most similarly-priced rivals, and Mazda’s G-Vectoring Control Plus system and i-ACTIV AWD. There is no ignoring the fact that some trims of the 2026 Mazda 3 Sedan are more expensive than the high-end trims of models like the 2026 Civic (Civic Sport Touring Hybrid: $32,395), and there is no hybrid engine option. However, where the Mazda 3 Sedan wins is in affordable luxury, available power, high rates of reliability, cheap running costs, and everyday usability.

The top-tier Turbo model has an exceptional output for its class and price if you run it on premium gas, and is more powerful and faster than the 2026 Civic Si, which gets a 200-horsepower turbo-four that gets it to 60 mph in 6.6 seconds. The interior and exterior design is well above its pay grade; you get a lot of standard features (like torque vectoring), which would be optional extras on other models, and it can still be used all the time.

The new Mazda 3 Sedan rides on a 107.4-inch wheelbase and has dimensions of 183.5 inches in length by 70.7 inches in width, and 56.9 inches in height. It is effectively everything you could ask for from a small-budget car, and what most models of the 2026 Mazda 3 Sedan prove is that “cheap” doesn’t have to mean lacking. All trims are nicely finished; power is reasonable at the bottom end and very impressive at the top end, and you don’t have to settle for a budget-feeling compact sedan when you spend under $30,000 for one.
