Then there’s the modularity of adding luggage solutions as per convenience to dial up on its practicality. Also, modern ADVs are loaded with cool technology features to further dial up the riding experience. The $5,999 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 packs a 40-horsepower liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine. The Showa-tuned suspension is designed to deliver both off-road performance and tarmac comfort. Technology features are also well-equipped, with notable ones being switchable ABS and two ride modes.

The Himalayan 450 gets an adjustable seat right from the factory, too. It also features a 4-inch TFT screen, a rarity in this segment. Another example is the$6,499 CFMoto Ibex 450, an arch-rival to the Himalayan 450. It gets a purpose-built ADV chassis, adaptive ergonomics with adjustable seat height, and off-road-ready ABS. CFMoto also offers an adjustable windshield and folding mirrors for elevated comfort, both on and off the roads.

The level of versatility, technology, and balanced performance offered on the Himalayan 450 and the Ibex 450 is commendable. However, certain aspects are still sacrificed in the two cases above, and others in this bunch, to achieve their aggressive value-for-money proposition, except the Honda Transalp; that doesn’t compromise.

The Honda Transalp Can Do It All For Under $10,000

The Transalp nameplate holds great significance for Honda. It was one of the Japanese marque’s famous off-road-ready offerings, with the first 600 cc version coming out in the late 1980s. The Transalp had a long run and was disbanded in 2013. However, Honda bought the famed Transalp nameplate back in 2023 with the XL750. The aim was to make this a go-to adventure bike that can do it all without intimidation.

So, instead of just focusing on one particular skill, like what Yamaha does with the off-road-focused $10,999 Tenere 700, Honda made the revamped Transalp 750 the jack of all trades but the master of none. It locks horns with the likes of the $12,499 Aprilia Tuareg 660, the $11,799 Suzuki V-Strom 800DE, and the now-discontinued KTM 790 Adventure. This Honda sure has its shortcomings when compared to its targeted rivals. But it takes the spotlight by offering ample features to stand up to its rivals and goes beyond to lock horns with the mighty BMW GS, while being the most affordable of the group at under $10,000.​​​​​​​

New Features On The 2026 Honda Transalp

Honda has yet to introduce the internationally updated 2026 Transalp in America. While there is no word on when the new model will drop, the updates sure make the package more enticing, which is why we will list them out so that you are more prepared to hop right on when the 2026 Transalp touches American soil! Building on the already extensive list of 2025 updates, the new Transalp focuses more on its off-roading prowess. It now gets the Honda e-clutch system as an optional feature.

This system, integrated with the throttle-by-wire, helps with smoother downshifts and upshifts. This system does add 13 pounds to the mix, but it is a modest penalty for the added convenience it offers. Another update comes in the form of a factory-fitted skid plate, standard on the E-clutch models, for added protection of the sump and downpipes. Another cool upgrade is the new, fully adjustable Showa suspension setup consisting of 43 mm USD front forks and a rear monoshock. The 2025 models only had pre-load adjustability at both ends.

A versatile 755 cc parallel-twin engine powers the Honda Transalp. This 270-degree mill is a modified version of the Honda CB750 Hornet streetfighter engine. On the Transalp, it has been tuned for both meaty low- and mid-range torque and hard-hitting top-end power, making it comfortable for urban runs and swift yet relaxed highway or trail runs. This is made possible by the combination of an eight-valve Unicam setup, a short-stroke design, and a compression ratio of 11.0:1.

The Honda Transalp produces an impressive 90.5 horsepower at 9,500 RPM and 55.3 pound-feet of torque at 7,250 RPM. This also makes the Transalp the most powerful adventure bike under $10,000. Power is sent to the rear wheel via a six-speed manual gearbox via a final chain drive. A standard quickshifter and an assist-and-slipper clutch for quick and precise shifts assist the transmission. Its engine is impressive due to its extremely compact and lightweight construction.

The Unicam head (derived from the Honda CRF450R motocross bike) is a prime reason for this. It operates the 35.5 mm-diameter valves with a 9.3 mm lift via a cam, and the 28 mm-diameter exhaust valves with an 8.2 mm lift via a rocker arm. The compact form factor is also due to the absence of a balancer drive gear, since the primary drive gear doubles as the balancer drive. The water pump is also cleverly placed inside the left engine cover.

Honda has given a lot of importance to weight on the Transalp. Its steel-diamond mainframe is impressively lightweight at just 40.3 pounds. That’s 10 percent lighter than the frame on the smaller 500 cc Honda NX500! The integrated steel sub-frame brings about a balance of weight and strength. This chassis is suspended on long travel suspension from Showa.

The front flaunts 43 mm Showa Separate Function Fork-Cartridge inverted forks with 7.9 inches of travel. The rear gets a remote-reservoir Showa monoshock that operates through a Pro-Link system, offering 7.5 inches of travel. Both ends offer pre-load adjustability, as mentioned earlier. The swingarm design is identical to that of the Africa Twin, but the Transalp has it carved out of aluminum for weight savings. It has a ground clearance of 8.3 inches, which offers ample confidence to take the Transalp on fairly challenging trails.

Braking duties are taken care of by compact components. It gets dual 310 mm wave discs, coupled to radially mounted two-piston floating calipers, up front. The rear gets a 256 mm wave disc coupled to a single-piston floating caliper. The Transalp flaunts a 21/18-inch spoke rim combination wrapped with 90-section front and 150-section rear off-road-eager tires. The combination of all its clever hardware components helps the Honda Transalp be comfortable on both tarmac and gravel.

Purposeful Design And Approachable Ergonomics

Honda has designed the Transalp to look sleek and minimal while also adopting an aerodynamically efficient design that enhances wind protection and stability at all speeds. The long-legged stance clearly indicates its affinity for adventure. The front end was redesigned for 2025 to be sleeker, featuring a new headlamp assembly with dual LEDs. Each of its panels is designed to deflect wind.

The re-profiled windscreen, introduced in 2025, is mounted on the revised upper fairing, which uses a central intake duct to control back pressure. This reduces buffeting around the helmet and aids in comfort during longer rides. The middle cowl section helps reduce wind flow velocity, offering nimbler handling in urban riding conditions and on twisty roads.

Comfort is also given due diligence here. The Transalp, despite its tall stance, has a low seat height for its class at 44.7 inches. It can be lowered by an additional 0.4 inches with the available lowering seat. The rider triangle is natural with an upright torso thanks to a tall and wide handlebar. The footpegs are placed right under the rider for optimum sit and stand riding geometries. Its wheelbase of 57 inches is thanks to a conservative rake angle of 27 degrees and a trail of 4.4 inches. All the weight-saving decisions help the Transalp weigh in at just 459 pounds.

Enhancing the riding dynamics and performance appeal is a throttle-by-wire system that offers five riding modes—Sport, Standard, Rain, Gravel, and User. These include four levels of engine power, three levels of engine brake, two levels of ABS, and five levels of Honda Selectable Torque Control. Furthermore, the rear ABS can be switched off for elevated off-roading fun. Honda also offers wheelie control as standard on the Transalp. The User ride mode helps fine-tune various parameters for a bespoke ride mode.

On the connectivity front, it has Honda RoadSync, which helps with Android and iOS smartphone connectivity. All of its electronic features are handled via a crisp 5-inch full-color TFT display that was introduced in 2025.
