Power is sent to the rear wheel via a six-speed manual gearbox via a final chain drive. A standard quickshifter and an assist-and-slipper clutch for quick and precise shifts assist the transmission. Its engine is impressive due to its extremely compact and lightweight construction.

The Unicam head (derived from the Honda CRF450R motocross bike) is a prime reason for this. It operates the 35.5 mm-diameter valves with a 9.3 mm lift via a cam, and the 28 mm-diameter exhaust valves with an 8.2 mm lift via a rocker arm. The compact form factor is also due to the absence of a balancer drive gear, since the primary drive gear doubles as the balancer drive.
