The Electric Sports Cars Bringing Speed Like Nothing Else In 2026

The sales of electric vehicles are down at the moment. CarEdge says there was a decrease in the overall EV market share at the end of 2025, from 8.7 percent in Q4 2024 to 5.7 percent in Q4 2025. However, prices for EVs have been slashed lately, and there is an exceptional amount on offer from across the segment. So there are upsides.

Regardless of your views on EVs and whether you have converted to electric vehicles from ICE and hybrid power or not, the technology that drives some of the fastest electric sports cars on the market is something to behold. A huge swathe of brands has invested heavily in upping range, delivering true performance, and ensuring that top speeds and sprint times of the top electric sports cars give petrol-powered cars a run for their money. In short, they do, with great success.

Models are listed in ascending order based on 0-60 MPH time, from the “slowest” to the quickest.

2026 Polestar 5

Though not quite ready for public consumption, the new Polestar 5 is going to be an exceptionally powerful, fast, and luxurious four-door GT from the Swedish powerhouse. Polestar says that the Polestar 5, which we are likely to see for sale as the 2026 MY, will be available in two dual-motor configurations.

Both the Polestar 5 Dual Motor and Polestar 5 Performance will boast all-wheel drive, 50:50 weight distribution, and dual permanent magnetic motors paired with a 106 kWh NCM battery. The Polestar Dual Motor’s rig can shift out a resounding 737 horsepower and 599 pound-feet of torque. This translates to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds.

Then there is the Polestar 5 Performance. The rig utilized kicks out 871 horsepower and 749 pound-feet of torque, getting you to 60 mph in as little as 3.1 seconds. That may not sound like a hugely impressive rest-to-60 time, but it is worth noting that the new Polestar 5 is an exceptionally luxurious electric GT that is made for more than just sprinting.

The Polestar 5 is going to tip the scales at between 5,428 pounds and 5,518 pounds, and alongside the battery weight, this is due to the immense amount of luxurious gear you get inside. The Polestar 5 is equipped with Recaro seats, a 14.5-inch touchscreen, a 9.5-inch HUD, a nine-inch driver display, a Bowers & Wilkins sound rig, Nappa leather, and oodles of legroom (though specifics haven’t been released yet). This is a true electric GT that can sprint like an on-road private jet.

The Drako GTE performance sedan is powered by a 90 kWh battery and four permanent magnetic motors rated at 300 horsepower each. Total horsepower output for the Drako GTE is 1,200 horsepower and 6,500 pound-feet of torque, or 0–60 mph in just a hair under three seconds.

The GTE is an electric performance sedan paired with electric hypercar DNA that boasts all sorts of precision wizardry and luxe goods in the cabin. You get hand-stitched leather, carbon fiber accents, and a large touchscreen.

A rear diffuser sits at the back; a front splitter sits up front; Öhlins dampers sit on each corner; it boasts 50:50 weight distribution, and the chassis is based on a Fisker Karma, but with the hybrid gubbins removed.

Lotus Evija

With only 130 being planned for construction, the Lotus Evija is an exceptionally expensive electric hypercar that may well be the best car Lotus has ever made. You get a lightweight one-piece carbon fiber monocoque chassis, a sculpted body inspired by F1 design, with Venturi tunnels, an integrated rear diffuser, active aerodynamics, and four individual motors that, combined, kick out 2,012 horsepower and 1,257 pound-feet of torque.

The Lotus Evija was literally built to beat records. It is currently the world’s lightest electric hypercar, tipping the scales at 3,700 pounds, and alongside the unbelievable power from the four motors, 0–60 mph times are very impressive at 2.5 seconds. What is even more headline-grabbing, though, is its 0–186 mph time.

Lotus says that the Evija can hit 186 mph (300 kmph) in just 9.2 seconds. That is quicker than a Koenigsegg One (11.9 Seconds), McLaren Speedtail (12.8 seconds), and a Hennessey Venom GT (13.63 seconds). Lotus also says that top speeds are 217 mph. Everything that Lotus has put into making the Evija the insane electric sports car that it is combines true Lotus engineering heritage and ultra-sleek modern tech in one exceptional package.

Top speeds have been limited to 155 mph, but with a rest-to-60 time of just 2.1 seconds, the limited top speed won’t matter on the road. Especially because you also get all-wheel steering, adjustable air suspension, ceramic brakes, e-torque vectoring, and “Push-to-Pass,” which gives you an extra boost for overtaking.

2026 Porsche Taycan

Currently, you can’t buy a Zeekr 001 FR in the U.S.A.; with import restrictions and trade policies stopping it currently, it is a shame. It can’t stop us appreciating how fast and impressive the 001 FR is, though. 0–60 mph times have been clocked at a rapid 2.02 seconds; top speeds are 174 mph, and like its main competition, the Tesla Model S, it can be used as an everyday electric sports car.

The Zeekr 001 FR is a shooting brake of the highest luxury caliber. Equipped are 22-inch black forged wheels, a carbon fiber roof, front lip diffuser, and rear wing; inside, you get an FR-exclusive steering wheel, Alcantara upholstery, and a minimalist build that looks techy yet classy.

Then there is the electric motivation behind the Zeekr 001 FR. Equipped are quad silicon carbide E-motors, with a combined output of 1,265 horsepower and 944 pound-feet of instant torque. The rear motors are wrapped in carbon fiber and can spin up to 20,620 rpm; Zeekr Torque Vectoring handles torque output to each individual wheel, and 0–214 mph times (200 kmph) have been clocked at 6.29 seconds. There is little doubt in our minds that if (or when) the Zeekr 001 FR arrives in the U.S.A., it is going to be able to take on some of the top electric sports cars.

The 2026 Tesla Model S Plaid is the fastest Tesla to date. Its top speed of 200 mph and 0–60 mph time of just 1.99 seconds puts it firmly in hypercar territory, and outsprints plenty of more expensive electric sports cars, while still being a comfortable full-size electric sedan. Powering the Tesla Model S Plaid is a 1,020-horsepower/1,050-pound-foot tri-motor setup.

The Model S Plaid is all-wheel drive, and comes equipped with torque vectoring, staggered wheels, a finely-crafted exterior to cut through the wind, and a drag coefficient of 0.23 cd, making it one of the top electric sports cars for sprinting, and considering its size and weight, twisty road fun.

According to Tesla, the Model S Plaid can also complete the quarter mile in 9.23 seconds at 155 mph, which makes it quicker than the V8-toting Porsche 718 Spyder (10 seconds) and the twin-turbocharged hybrid V8-equipped Ferrari SF90 Spider (9.8 seconds). Considering that the starting price for a 2026 Model S Plaid is $111,630, we think that is a lot of bang for your buck up against the SF90’s average auction price of $590,000.

2026 Lucid Air Sapphire

At the core of the 2026 Lucid Air Sapphire is a tri-motor setup, with two motors at the rear and one at the front. Total horsepower output is 1,234, and total torque output is a mind-bending 1,430 pound-feet.

Lucid says that it takes just 1.89 seconds for this full-sized luxury sedan to hit 60 mph, and top speeds are pure electric hypercar-esque at 204 mph. Plus, the Lucid Air Sapphire is not just a one-trick pony; its performance features read like something straight from a racetrack-bred machine.

In other words, it is not all just about sprinting, but intense speed in most on-road or track situations.

The Pininfarina Battista is equipped with full torque vectoring, carbon ceramic Brembo brakes, 20-inch front and 21-inch forged Glorioso wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires, and a full carbon fiber monocoque chassis. It is not a light beast, weighing in at 5,075 pounds, but that doesn’t seem to have slowed it down.
