Despite its flaws, the F-Pace still remains among the best underrated sporty luxury SUVs out there, which is a bargain in the used market.

The Jaguar F-Pace was launched back in 2016, but if you’re looking to buy one used, it’s best to look for a 2021 model. This is when the F-Pace got a major update, starting with the exterior design. The MY21 model got a revised grill, reworked hood, and restyled exterior lighting elements. The cabin got a larger infotainment system with refined Pivi and PiviPro operating systems, along with standard heated seats and a 14-speaker stereo system. This update also brought a new engine option.

Here’s Why It’s A Used Bargain Today

Back when it was new, the 2021 Jaguar F-Pace went for $51k for the base P250 model and as high as $85k for the top-tier SVR model. Today, the F-Pace has shed around 50 percent of its value and goes for a whole lot cheaper. According to Kelley Blue Book, the F-Pace’s Fair Purchase Price hovers between $23k to $46k, depending on the trim. That’s a terrific bargain for a sporty luxury SUV that’s just five years old.

If you look for a 2021 F-Pace, you’ll come across multiple trim levels, which will decide how much money you’ll spend. The base P250 and P250 S go for around $23k to $24k, whereas the more powerful P340 S and P400 R-Dynamic S go for $27k to $30k. That’s an absolute steal, but if you don’t mind spending a bit more, you can even find a well-maintained SVR at around $46k. The SVR is a lot more expensive than the standard models, but for the performance and experience it offers, it feels totally worth it.

Which F-Pace To Go For?

For most buyers who want a balance of performance and value, the best trim level to look for is the turbocharged four-cylinder P250 S. This model will get the job done, but higher trims offer better features. Upgrading to higher models unlocks larger wheels, power-operated rear liftgate, handsome leather upholstery, and, not to forget, more performance. At a steep price hike, the SVR is best suited for those looking for its supercharged V8 performance and don’t mind the extra maintenance cost that comes with it.

Power Engine Options And Sporty Underpinnings

The Jaguar F-Pace was offered with multiple engine options back in 2021, starting with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine on the P250 and P250 S. This engine produces 246 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque, which should be good enough for daily driving but won’t feel as exciting. Reviewers at the time also noted that the turbo-four engine isn’t as refined as those found on the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class.

We’d instead recommend going for the P340 or the P400 R-Dynamic S models. These feature a more powerful 3.0-liter supercharged straight-six engine with a mild hybrid, making 335 and 395 horsepower on the P340 and P400 models, respectively. These engines are known for their responsive character and perky acceleration, taking the P400 from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 5.5 seconds. If that’s still not enough, the SVR will serve you well, thanks to its muscular 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine making 550 horsepower. The SVR can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 3.7 seconds.

Sporty Underpinnings That Match Engine’s Character

Every F-Pace model features standard all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The suspension is also tuned on the firm side for a sporty feel, with quick-reacting steering and confidence-inspiring feedback from the tires. Reviewers suggest that driving the F-Pace quickly is genuinely impressive and rewarding. And don’t worry, despite the stiff suspension setup, the ride quality shouldn’t feel harsh. Here, the SVR bumps things up with larger brakes and a revised suspension setup.

Posh Interiors With All The Right Features In Place

The Jaguar F-Pace’s interiors are in line with other Jaguar models of the time, complete with a minimalistic interior aesthetic with simple detailing, lots of window area, and easy-to-reach controls. The SUV offers a high seating position, and owners praise the driver’s seating position, which is said to put you square to the steering wheel and pedals. The F-Pace also offers one of the roomiest front cabin spaces, though the second row is just average. Cargo space is good too, with 33.5 cubic feet behind the second row and 63.5 cubic feet with the 40/20/40 split-folding seat down.

The choice of materials is what will win you over. The F-Pace features aluminum and open-pore wood veneer trim, and there’s also the British cricket ball-inspired rotary-dial shifter. Stepping up to the F-Pace P400 R-Dynamic S unlocks sport seats, aluminum trim, black headliner, and more. The top-tier SVR offers the sportiest interior, complete with Alcantara inserts on the door and seats, along with a unique split-rim steering wheel with zinc alloy shift paddles.

In terms of infotainment, the F-Pace uses an 11.4-inch curved glass touchscreen running the then-latest Pivi and PiviPro (on the SVR). It is complemented with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 14-speaker Meridian audio system, built-in navigation, and active road noise cancellation. Other features include forward collision warning with automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and more. Some modes also feature built-in navigation and mobile hotspot, which were offered as optional extras back then.

Not For The Faint Of Wallet, Though

Some things are too good to be true, and the Jaguar F-Pace gets kinda close to that with its reliability. It has depreciated so much for a reason, but is it still worth it? J.D. Power gave it a 76 out of 100 reliability score, suggesting average reliability. According to CarEdge, the F-Pace will set you back by $17,319 in maintenance and repairs in the first 10 years. While that’s lower than some of its competitors, CarEdge predicts a 50 percent chance of the SUV needing a major repair during that time.

With the 2021 model, though, you’ll have it a bit better. With the major update, Jaguar fixed many of the electrical and infotainment bugs of the earlier models. Even the engine options, especially the six-cylinder ones, are generally considered quite robust, but the mild hybrid system means there are more electronic components to monitor. According to owners, common issues to look out for include suspension air springs (on equipped models), coolant leaks in certain engine variants, and minor glitches with the power liftgate.

According to owners, the F-Pace, despite its average reliability scores, can be quite dependable as long as you stick to scheduled preventative maintenance. So, if you can live with the fact that the F-Pace will take you to the mechanic a few more times than usual, there’s hardly a better bargain in the used luxury SUV space. The F-Pace promises to be genuinely good, offering the right kind of sporty and stylish feel that most of its rivals can’t match.
